Berman Leadership Development started as a solo practice in 2005, with two coaching clients and two companies for which Bill Berman subcontracted onboarding (PrimeGenesis) and Industrial/Organizational consulting (APTMetrics).
Bill started doing executive coaching when he left The Echo Group in 2004, and was considering his next career move. His coach helped him to understand that his experience as both a licensed psychologist and software entrepreneur gave him unique experience for executive coaching.
In 2006, Bill published his first article on executive coaching psychology in the journal, Professional Psychology: Theory and Practice.
Bill registered Berman Leadership Development as a limited liability corporation in summer 2009.
In 2011, Bill began working with his first subcontractor. By this time, our clients included a global investment bank, a Fortune 75 insurance company, a global pharmaceutical firm, and five other public companies.
In 2014, Bill joined the board of the Society of Consulting Psychology, a division of the American Psychological Association, and served on the board for the next decade.
2015 was a noteworthy growth year and Berman Leadership began working with a large number of experienced psychologist coaches.
In 2018, Bill was elected President-Elect of the Society of Consulting Psychology.
2019 was a record year for Berman Leadership, with 40% growth over 2018, and our first enterprise coaching and assessment contract with a large biopharmaceutical firm. At the same time, we had a more than 200% increase in active consultants and formed a strategic alliance with the Institute of Coaching at Harvard University. We also began collaborating with the European School of Management and Technology's Executive Coaching Colloquia.
Plus, we published our second paper on executive coaching in the Consulting Psychology Journal.
From 2019 to 2024, Berman Leadership continued to grow an average of 20%+ per year, including during COVID. We assembled a cadre of more than 60 highly experienced executive coaches with backgrounds in business, psychology, medicine, and STEM fields.
In 2021, Bill Berman and his colleague George Bradt (CEO, PrimeGenesis) published a bestselling book, "Influence and Impact: Discover and Excel at What Your Organization Needs From You the Most."
In 2023, Scott Serviss joined the firm as our first Chief Operating Officer.
In 2024, Michael Molinaro joined the firm to build out a programmatic leadership development line of business. For the previous 15 years, Michael had served as the Chief Learning Officer of New York Life Insurance.
In 2025, Hy Pomerance joined the firm to help further expand the business into new industry verticals, and incorporate strategic talent consulting into our coaching, assessment, and leadership development services.
We’re always interested in hearing from individuals who think they have what it takes to join our talented cadre of coaches.
The best athletes have coaches. As a CEO, I work with an executive coach from Berman Leadership to help me stay focused, help my team stay focused, help me communicate better, and help my team communicate better. I appreciate being able to bounce ideas off of them when I’m seeing issues from personnel to strategy. Their psychology based approach combined with business experience helps me navigate new problems and gives me great guidance for how to get from point A to point B when you don’t have a map.
